Are you hindered from becoming active in your local church due to your past sins?

Restoration Road can include a few speed bumps: stone and sand. When I sold my business to pursue my Masters and Doctorate degrees in Theology, the reactions of stone hearts, like the older brother in Jesus’ trilogy, hampered me from continuing on my path toward connecting ministry and marketplace. I received the vibe that I had sinned too much to ever consider teaching the Bible in a local church.

The reaction of sand hearts, like the younger brother in Jesus’ parable, saw my career change as crazy. I was at the pinnacle of my industry. Many collectors bought and sold classic cars solely on my advice. I have to admit, their argument made sense. However, my prompting had been clear to me.

One customer and friend comforted me with these words, concluding a telephone call where we had discussed my transition, “Mitchell, everyone did business with you, not because of your position, but because of your person.” In his own way, he was saying that who I was designed to be determined what I was designed to do and ultimately determined where I was designed to go.

Speaking to a group of believers who had committed many past sins, the Apostle Paul wrote: “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you” (1 Corinthians 3:16).

Our good works don’t make us holy, nor do our sins permanently disqualify us from being used by God. We are holy solely due to the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

Have you been reluctant to get involved in a ministry? Fully surrender your life to Christ and experience a clay heart that is malleable in the Restorer’s hands. He will use you to draw others to Himself, as you reflect the design of the Designer.
