When we consider following God’s design for our lives, we want to know how close we can get to the line without getting into trouble. Yet, more often than we realize, we actually cross the line, and every time we pursue life apart from God, we die inside. This demise of our souls kills enthusiasm in those around us, stifling the development of meaningful relationships and hindering our ability to lead any group toward achieving a common goal. Sin simply destroys everyone and everything, leaving us with a lingering problem that cannot be mitigated by our own merits. Still, God provides the only solution. He MADE a way.
The Apostle Paul wrote to the Universal Church: “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved” (Ephesians 2:4-5). Transgressions means we crossed the line, multiple times. Consequently, outside a genuine relationship with Christ, we are lifeless, separated from eternity with God. Despite our best efforts to restore our broken connection with Him, we are helpless, but our Creator has more than enough love to reach us all. When we surrender our lives to Christ, by grace through faith, we join those who have eternal and abundant life in Him.
Have you fully surrendered your life to Christ as Savior and Lord? If not, would you like to make today the day that you become fully alive in Him? Pray, “God, I can’t. You can. I can’t pay for the penalty of my sin. God, in Christ, you can. I can’t free myself from the power of sin. God, in Christ, you can.” If you have committed your life to Christ, ask God to reveal any desire in your heart for life apart from Him and renew the joy in your vitality of life in Christ, a life so vibrant that it draws everyone you encounter to the One who makes all things new again.
