In order to be restored to authenticity, we need to surrender our treasure.
We can get one rather obvious indication of how we’re managing our treasure by looking at our checking accounts.
Our checkbook registers reveal the costs of our needs: mortgage or rent payments, school tuition, groceries, utilities, gas for our cars, and the balance of expenses for survival.
Our checking accounts also reveal the costs of our wants: new car payments, new boat payments, lake cottage payments, vacations, electronics, and other luxuries that we often prioritize. Consequently, treasure is oftentimes the most difficult of our three resources to give away.
Whether a need or a want, we must seek God in order to reallocate our finances for His kingdom’s advancement. Anything else is foolish.
Solomon asked, “Of what use is money in the hand of a fool, since he has no desire to get wisdom?” (Proverbs 17:16).
This week, pray daily that God would help you prioritize your finances, as you offer all of your assets to advance His kingdom in the hearts of others. Make every payment an act of worship. Your financial life will be restored to its original design.
