Control

“Who or what has ultimate control of your life, God or money?”

Control is the extension of our will over another person or object. We attempt to control others, our own lives, or even God.

That’s why in our pride we seek control from money. Jesus taught, “No one can serve two masters” (Matthew 6:24). Jesus knew that our desire for control, a gift from God to serve him (Genesis 1:28), would be abused in a dualistic lifestyle where we would attempt to selfishly control others for our own purposes to try to bring some order into our own lives. As a result, we become out of control.

Jesus continued, “Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other” (Matthew 6:24). The attempt to serve two masters really boils down to just serving one — our own selfish desires.

However, in our humility we seek to serve God exclusively. Jesus concluded, “You cannot serve both God and Money” (Matthew 6:24).

Today, humbly serve the one true Master. The result will be the power of God in Christ being made known in your relationships (1 Corinthians 1:24).
